todd: Golden Book of TED Is it just me, or does the backdrop for the TED conference resemble those old Golden Book Encyclopedia covers? Regard:


Even so, Al Gore shows some interesting slides about polar ice melting and so forth. The combination of his talk and the backdrop reminds me of the International Geophysical Year, 1957-1958, which was probably the first time that a huge global effort was undertaken to understand our environment. Of course, some of the major funding was from e.g. the Corona spy satellite program, but some great science got done that year.
